When you think of a raft, you probably think of life rafts in the middle of the ocean, or of rafts on whitewater rapids. In both situations, you can picture and even feel the danger involved. However, rafts can be used for something less dangerous and much more relaxing. Raft tours can take you on excursions down quieter rivers and through gentler waterways. There are a few raft tours in this country that you absolutely must take before you die.
The Grand Canyon Tour
Most people think that the Grand Canyon is just a series of deep gorges and tall plateaus that drop to dry ground. Not so; there is, in fact, a river that winds through the Grand Canyon. Tours by raft along this river provide some of the most amazing views of this national landmark. Most tours are between three and seven days, depending on how much you want to see and how much you love camping and floating along in the raft.
The Mississippi River Tour
The longest North-South river in North America, the Mississippi River is massive. Its width is almost as jaw-dropping as its length, and in some areas, the river is so deep that you could spend an hour trying to dive to the bottom. The raft tours offered of this river are typically abbreviated ones since it would take weeks to traverse the entire river in a raft. Pick the tour that interests you most and/or selects a part of the river closest to your home state.
The Historical Delaware River Tour
George Washington himself crossed the Delaware River to defeat the Hessian troops. It is that image that prompts many people to choose a historical raft tour of the Delaware River. Various landmark locations are pointed out and/or visited along the way. You are able to see some of what great historical figures saw whenever they encountered the river.
Rivers and Underground Cavern Tours
Exploring caverns and caves by riding along in a raft is as fascinating as it is exciting. There are many unique rock formations and cave creatures to spot on these tours, plus you do not have to crawl along on your belly to get from one place to the next. You just float peacefully along in a raft, occasionally paddling when the raft is just slowly floating along. Many of these tours are great for families, too.
