Getting licensed to carry a concealed firearm and buying a revolver for that purpose doesn't mean that you'll be able to automatically holster the weapon under your clothing and forget about it every time you leave your home. While it's true that carrying your new revolver under your shirt, in your waistband, or strapped to your ankle will help you to feel more secure, you need to know that you can't take your gun with you into certain locations. Just as you've been committed to learning how to carry and conceal the revolver safely, you'll now have to take a smart approach to dealing with gun-free zones. Here are some things to think about.
Identify These Locations
It's useful to begin to compile a mental list of the places that don't allow people to carry guns. You'll commonly find that government buildings have such policies; this means that if you're going to pay a traffic ticket at your local courthouse, you aren't going to want to carry your revolver inside. Bars and restaurants often have no-gun policies, as do schools and places of worship. It's worthwhile to investigate these areas in advance so that you aren't breaking any rules by wearing your revolver when you enter.
Have A Vehicle Safe
Sometimes, you'll face a situation in which you need to go somewhere when you're carrying your revolver, but you realize that the location has a no-gun policy. You don't want to just toss the gun on the seat of your vehicle in the parking lot. Instead, invest in a discreet vehicle safe that will easily accommodate your revolver. Many such safes on the market will hide and protect your gun. When you arrive at the location, you can slip the firearm into the safe and then enter the premises.
Make The Call
Before you go out, think about where you'll be visiting. If you're just making a quick trip to an area that doesn't allow guns, it may be worthwhile to simply leave your new revolver in your gun safe at home. However, you may be in a situation in which you need to make one stop at a no-gun building, but then visit a number of other locations that allow people to carry concealed firearms. In such a case, you'll likely want to rely on the gun safe in your vehicle. Being smart about where you're going and proceeding accordingly is always part of being a responsible gun owner.
